87th Evening Event

8th December 2023. Representative Hall No. 38 of the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. Celebration of the 30th anniversary of founding the Church Law Society. At the beginning, Prof. Jiří Rajmund Tretera read 20 names of members of the Society and supporters who sent their congratulations. He followed it up with a thrilling reading of excerpts from his book Czech Memoirs, The Adventurous Life of a Lawyer, Law Professor and Priest and His Parents in the Last 120 Years, which charted the history of the Church Law Society and were interspersed with the ukulele playing and singing of Assoc. Prof. Záboj Horák. The celebrations were preceded by a Holy Mass celebrated in the Church of St.Francis at the foot of the Charles Bridge on 7th December 2023, concelebrated by seven priests.

   

86rd Evening Event

7th June 2023. Representative Hall No. 38 of the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. The content of the evening, which followed on from the exhibition of church and religion law publications, was the screening of a presentation entitled Something more about the literature exhibition for the profile module Church law, Overview of the literature of canon and religion law, which was published in Czech and Slovak in the period 1990–2023. At the beginning of the evening, Prof. Tretera recalled eleven authors who passed away between 2000 and 2022. Then a presentation of 76 publications was delivered. Doc. Horák played the ukulele and sang at the beginning, middle and end of the presentation. The evening ended with friendly conversations over the prepared refreshments.

       

2022

85th Evening Event

14th December 2022. Auditorium no. 38, the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. The gala evening was dedicated to the presentation and blessing of J. R. Tretera’s latest book, Czech Memoirs, The Adventurous Life of a Lawyer, Law Professor and Priest and His Parents in the Last 120 Years. After the book had been presented and thanks had been given to all those involved in its creation and the first extract had been read from the book, the priests and deacons present, led by Cardinal Dominik Duka, proceeded to bless the book. This was followed by a series of readings by the author, to which musical accompaniment was provided by Associate Professor Záboj Horák, who sang and played the ukulele. To conclude, Mgr. Jan Hájek, deacon and sailor, gave a ceremonial toast. The informal part of the evening continued with a book signing and plenty of friendly conversation over refreshments. The evening was attended by almost seventy members and supporters of the Church Law Society.

       

84th Evening Event

9th November 2022. Hall number 38 at the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. After the opening of the festive evening that had the theme Ecology and environmental threats related to the war in Ukraine, the guests present listened to the mass pericope from the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 11, 25–30) and a recording of the sermon given by Mons. Tomáš Halík during the solemn service on 4th October 2022, on the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and environmentalists. This was followed by a talk by Associate Professor Vojtěch Stejskal, Head of the Department of Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, on The impact of the war in Ukraine on the environment and nature from the perspective of law. Then, Matouš Horák, the owner of a farm in Přešín in western Bohemia, spoke on The practical impact of the war in Ukraine on Czech agriculture. The evening ended with friendly conversations over a glass of wine and sandwiches.

      

83th Evening Event

27th June 2022. Representative Hall No. 38 of the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague, at the head of which is a relief of JUDr. Milada Horáková. Regular meeting of the General Assembly of the Church Law Society. The second part of the evening consisted of honoring the memory of JUDr. Milada Horáková and three martyrs executed together with her on 27th June 1950. This was followed by the blessing of J. R. Treteraʼs book: End Your Visits, Doors Are Closing, or Eighteen Ballads and Romances from Hospital
Halls and Hallways
, published as the third volume of the Book Series of Church and Religion Law. The evening ended with a friendly conversation over a glass of wine.

      

 

2019

82nd Evening Event

6th November 2019. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. The Church Law Society organized this meeting in cooperation with the The Czech Genealogy and Heraldry Society in Prague. After the opening speech of the moderator of the evening, prof. JUDr. Jiří Rajmund Tretera OP, Martin Slaboch, chairman of the The Czech Genealogy and Heraldry Society in Prague, spoke. In his contribution, he first introduced the Societyʼs activities and then addressed the principles of genealogy and heraldry. Another speaker was Roman Bláha, a genealogist specializing in the documentation of Czech cemeteries, who owns their extensive photo documentation. He shared this wealth of his with the participants of the evening by showing more pictures. At the end, Pavel Hnízdil spoke, who presented individual auxiliary historical sciences that serve genealogists to understand genealogical research. At the end of the evening, there was a discussion followed by a friendly meeting over a glass of wine.

      

 

81st Evening Event

19th February 2019. Ceremonial hall no. 38, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague. In the first part of the evening, in connection with the accreditation procedure, prof. Jiří Rajmund Tretera informed of discussion on introducing the Church Law as a compulsory subject at the Faculty of Law. A panel discussion on Ecology, Christianity and Law followed, attended by RNDr Jiří Nečas, mathematician from the University of Economics in Prague, Associate Professor Vojtěch Stejskal, from the Department of Environmental Law of the Faculty of Law of Charles University, and Matouš Horák, owner of a farm in Přešín, West Bohemia. The program was of great interest to more than fifty participants, many of whom spoke during a fruitful and friendly discussion. The evening was accompanied by Associate Professor Záboj Horák playing ukulele, he played and sang three songs from different parts of the world.

      

2018

80th Evening Event

22nd November 2018. Ceremonial hall no. 38, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague. The first part of the evening consisted of presentations of the new website of the Church Law Society (Czech, English and Italian versions) and extended teaching of canon law and religion law at the Faculty of Law of the Charles University. In the second part, new books were presented: Ignác Antonín Hrdina, Miloš Szabo Teorie kanonického práva [Theory of Canon Law], Stanislav Přibyl The Early Church Order. Beginnings of Formation of Canon Law (written in English) and Die Rechtsstellung der Kirchen und Religionsgesellschaften in Tschechien (written in German). The evening accompanied by his play Duo semplice (Lukáš Dobrodinský: harp, Vít Homer: flute).

15th May 2018. Ceremonial hall no. 38, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague. Regular session of the General Meeting of the Church Law Society. Dialogue on concept of activities of the Church Law Society in following two years was held in the second part of the evening. The event was accompanied by solo guitar player Štěpán Korenec.

20th February 2018. Ceremonial hall no. 38, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague. Presentation of a book Autonomy of Churches by JUDr. Jakub Kříž, Ph.D. Author reading took place. At the end of the evening, dialogue with a glass of wine followed.

7th June 2017. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. Presentation of new books: Jiří Rajmund Tretera, Záboj Horák Church Law, Stanislav Přibyl Beginnings of Hierarchical Arrangement in Early Church and Antonín Hrdina, Hedvika Kuchařová Mysteries Concerning Marriage of Anne Katherine Špork. Stanislav Přibyl played piano during the event.

      


76th Evening Event
28th March 2017. Ceremonial hall no. 38, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague. The event was organized in cooperation with the Všehrd Association of Czech Lawyers. Mayor and Mayor Emeritus of the association handed over the honorary membership diploma to Prof. Jiří Rajmund Tretera in the first part of the event. A lecture and discussion on the new instruction of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Ad resurgendum cum Christo (regarding burial and cremation) of 15th August 2016 followed. Prof. Jiří Rajmund Tretera and ThLic. Tomáš Kotrlý, Th.D. gave their speeches. The event was accompanied by solo guitar player Alexandre Glize from Paris.

75th Evening Event
12th December 2016. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. A lecture on the topic 800th Anniversary of Approval of Order of Preachers – Dominicans was given by P. Augustin Prokop OP, long-standing novice master and prior, now superior of the Dominican priory in Jablonné (Northern Bohemia). At the end of the evening, a silver medal of the Church Law Society “for pioneering activity in church law and religion law science and for self-sacrificing work in the management of the Society and Church Law Review journal” was handed over to Associate Professor Stanislav Přibyl, in the occasion of his 50th birthday.

     

74th Evening Event
3rd May 2016. Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague, room no. 243. General Meeting of the Church Law Society took place in the first part of the event. A lecture of PhDr. Drahomír Suchánek, Ph.D., Th.D., from the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague on the topic Legacy of Charles IV: Theory and Practice of Government of a Medieval Monarch followed. The event was accompanied by solo guitar player Štěpán Korenec.

5th April 2016. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. A lecture on the topic Importance of Religion Law was given by Associate Professor Stanislav Přibyl. A new monograph Religion Law by Jiří Rajmud Tretera and Záboj Horák was presented at the end of the event.

A speech was given by Dominik Cardinal Duka, OP, Archbishop of Prague and Primate of the Czech Republic, and by Ms. JUDr. Jana Sladká-Hyklová, editor-in-chief of the Leges publishing house.

Presentation of a book Religion and Law in Czech Republic by Jiří Rajmund Tretera and Záboj Horák, as well as a book Historical Library of Hospital Kuks and its Roman Law and Canon Law Sources by Antonín Ignác Hrdina and Jindřich Kolda.

JUDr. PhDr. Stanislav Balík, attorney, judge emeritus of the Constitutional Court, gave a lecture on the topic Development of Judicial Decisions of Constitutional Court Concerning Churches and Restitution of Former Property of Churches.

69th Evening Event
24th April 2014. Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague, room no. 243. General Meeting of the Church Law Society took place, which approved amendments to the Constitution of the Society according to the new Civil Code of 2012. The Society became a registered association. A speech on amendments to the Articles of Association was given by a member of the Working Committee Mgr. Stanislav Pšenička.

24th March 2014. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. A lecture on the topic Difficult Situation of Sacrament of Confirmation in Perspective of Contemporary Ecclesiastical Regulation was given by P. Benedikt Mohelník, Th.D., OP, from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Charles University in Prague, Provincial Superior of Czech Province of the Dominican Order.

2013

67th Evening Event
15th December 2013. Baroque refectory of the Dominican priory of St. Giles in the Old Town of Prague. Celebration of the 20th anniversary of founding the Church Law Society. A golden medal “merit award for establishment and management of the Church Law Society” was handed over to Prof. Jiří Rajmund Tretera. Ing. Jiří Vaingát received a diploma appreciating his activity as a secretary of the Church Law Society between 2006 and 2013, Ing. Stanislav Hruška received a diploma appreciating his activity as a librarian of the Church Law Society between 2007 and 2013. Part of the evening was the holy Mass in St. Giles Church.
